Emergency Break Down of a 12,000 Horsepower Oxygen Compressor Motor
At the beginning of November, we were approached by JX Nippon Mining & Metals Co., Ltd., a Japanese based copper mining company, with the news that one of their 12,000HP, 1200 RPM, 6.9 KV synchronous compressor motors had failed in their oxygen plant that was running in Japan’s largest copper smelter.
The entire process included a complete electrical and mechanical engineering evaluation, machine work on journals and shaft, mechanical modifications, assembly, testing per IEEE 115, and all logistics from our plant in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Tokyo, Japan. We were able to turn the job around in just over one week’s time, and the plant is now fully operational. These emergency turn arounds are typical to The Pump & Motor Works, and we are proud to lead the industry in responsiveness to these situations.
